Hummingbird Blendies Review + Antioxidant Smoothie Bowl Recipe
One of the best things about what I do as a blogger is that I get to discover amazing new products from some very talented business owners across Australia and sometimes even over seas. Often time these are products that are not widely available in stores, at least they aren’t where I live in North Queensland and I get so excited to be able to sample and support wonderful new products with loads of health benefits.
This particular product that I am reviewing today has come at a very convenient time for me. I am currently 4 months pregnant and although my morning sickness has finally gone away I am still finding it difficult to push through the lingering fatigue and get the motivation to eat nutritiously. These Smoothie blendie balls have all the nutrients you need to start your morning right with minimal effort (or in my case to whip up a quick snack since I am hungry 24/7). So lets get started with the review
What is it? Hummingbird Blendies are basically a pack of large bliss balls containing a range of nutrient dense ingredients such as pea protein powder, dates, super seeds and a range of different superfoods like acai, spirulina, cacao and matcha to name a few. They are minimally processed with no nasty additives, preservatives or fillers and no refined sugar. They are gluten free, paleo and vegan friendly, use all natural high quality ingredients and are Australian made. They come in 5 different flavours including antioxidant, cleanse, energy, protein and kids. On a side note I am also extremely impressed with the packaging. I think it is super cute, stylish and very well designed.
Benefits: The main benefits to these smoothie blendies is that it helps save time and effort in the mornings while ensuring you are getting a good dose of supercharged nutrients. The blendies provide all the micro nutrients you need for a well balanced meal. It is especially convenient for busy working men and women that are time poor in the morning. It’s also beneficial for people that want to try out superfoods but are a little bit overwhelmed with the idea of superfoods and how to use them. This is a great way to get them into your diet without thinking much about it too much. I also think products like these are great to use as nutritional supplements. If you are like me and don’t handle synthetic vitamins and minerals very well (especially during pregnancy), getting your nutrients from densely packed food sources is a much more efficient and delicious way to get essential nutrients into your diet.
Taste: I have found that the taste of the blendies can vary depending on the other ingredients you add to your smoothie. This is great since you can switch up the ingredients to get taste and flavour that appeals to you while still getting all the beneficial nutrients. The possibilities are endless. All in all the taste resembles a mildly flavoured and slightly sweet protein powder. Each option has a different flavour however if you are not one to be able to pick the flavours well once they are blended up it is best to stick to the effect you are going for with your smoothie ie. energy or cleanse.
Price: The price for an individual tube of blendies is $15:90. The company offers at home delivery and you can opt for a once off buy or get a discount for getting a 3 monthly supply or a yearly supply. The price for a 3 month supply is $13.90 per tube (this will get you 4 tubes and a glass bottle on your first purchase delivered every month for 3 months). The price for a yearly supply is $9:90 per tube (you get 4 tubes delivered monthly for 12 months). You also get free shipping for any order over $35 in Australia and New Zealand.
How to use it: Simply drop 1 blendie ball in your blender, add your fruit and/or vegetables of choice, top with water, juice or milk of choice and blend. You can also add yogurt and some extra sweetener to get the taste you are going for. I am adding a recipe for how I like to use them down below.
Cons: Since the product is minimally processed and does not contain any nasty ingredients, I think it is a great choice for people looking to get more nutrients into their diet with minimal effort. The only con I can think of is that if you have certain food intolerances or sensitivities you may need to be a little more careful with the ingredients you choose. There are no nuts in the ingredients as far as I can tell but they do contain seeds and ingredients like dates and fruit powders that might be an issue for those with fructose intolerance. Most people will not have these issues and the main allergens like gluten soy and dairy have been removed so for the most part the majority of people can enjoy the product with no problems.
